CLASS PLACEMENT OF STUDENTS FOR SEPTEMBER 2025
As our school staff begins to organize for classes in September 2025, it is important for our parents to understand the process for student placement decisions. Our ultimate goal is to provide an optimum learning environment for all students. The current teachers at each grade level will meet with prospective teachers of the next grade level, as well as with special education teachers, ELL teachers, and the Principal/Vice Principal of the school. We work as a team with the following criteria taken into consideration:

  • Class sizes consistent with Ministry and Board Guidelines
  • A range of performance levels within each class
  • Placement of ELL or Special Education students that facilitates resource or withdrawal programs required by some students
  • Promoting positive social relationships while minimizing unproductive associations
  • Matching learning styles with teaching strategies whenever possible

If there is information regarding your child that you feel would be pertinent to placement decisions, please advise us via email at jersey.ps@yrdsb.ca  by May 30, 2025.  If you have written in the past, please submit a new letter to ensure we have all up-to-date information. Please be aware that we do not take specific requests for teachers as part of this process.

All final decisions regarding student placement remain the responsibility of the school’s Principal and Vice Principal.  Please note that according to Board policy, we will not be informing students and parents regarding their 2025-2026 teacher until the first day of school.

MATH SURVEY
As part of the York Region District School Board’s Math Achievement Action Plan, our school is committed to enhancing student success in mathematics through improved teaching strategies, in-class support, and access to resources.  Your input is valuable in helping us better understand how current resources are supporting your child’s learning and how we can continue to improve. Please take a moment to complete the 2 question Family Feedback Survey on Math Resources (https://bit.ly/YRDSBFamilyMathSurvey) and share your thoughts on the math resources available to your child to support learning at home and in the classroom.  Please complete this survey by Friday, June 6, 2025.

SPOONS
We are getting more and more students coming to the office for disposable spoons.  We do not always have spoons available.  Please remember to send your child with a spoon if it is needed for their snack or lunch.
